Rethinking Church
"Rethinking Church" is about discovering Hollister Christian Fellowship’s part in God’s plan. It is not about change for the sake of change or finding unique niches or riding trends. It is about coming into greater dependence upon God to fulfill His plan through us. Rethinking church encourages a healthy skepticism towards church plans, programs, and efforts by asking whether such plans are inspired by God or by our own desires and/or fears. Rethinking church recognizes that Christ is faithful to complete that which he has already begun in each one of us.
Church, it’s not just for Sunday
God is always at work, therefore ministry happens all week long! We serve in our homes, at work, in our leisure and in midweek gatherings. Many today seek to exclude the presence of God from our culture and lives. We want to witness the presence and power of God in our culture and in our lives daily
Church for Your Generation
Jesus is cross generational. That is to say the timeless truth He taught us about himself, the world, the Kingdom of God and ourselves is relevant to every generation. Nevertheless, we recognize that those truths must be translated into the language unique to a particular generation. People of modern and post-modern culture see and react to the world differently. Therefore, we believe it is important to present the teachings of Christ in manner that is meaningful to and welcomes multiple generations
Hospitality
Haven’t been to church for a while? Or has it been a long while? Never been? We believe a church community should be a safe place for anyone. Maybe you made major mistakes in life. God says that your past makes no difference to Him. Most of us have messed-up one time or another. Remembering our past helps us to appreciate the kindness of our Father and the grace of His son, Jesus. We want you to know that kindness and grace. We want you to know the hospitality of God and we hope you feel welcome at our church.
People over programs
All people matter to God. We don’t design programs that need people. We find out who people are and build programs around them. We believe God brings together people with complimentary gifts, talents, and experiences for a purpose. It is our joy to discover that purpose through prayer and fellowship and to transform that purpose into loving action.
Timeless truth
We believe God is knowable and wants to be known. We believe he inspired the writing of the Bible to reveal Himself and His ways to mankind. The Bible is like no other book written because the Holy Spirit uses the words of its pages to change and transform the life of the reader.
Prayer is a wonderful thing
God hears prayer. God is sovereign and exercises His sovereignty over the world. Nevertheless we are often unaware of His presence. God desires that we become aware of Him and His intimate guiding as a leader, shepherd, and friend. We acknowledge our desire and need as a church to be dependent on prayer. We make prayer a priority in our decisions and endeavors.
